Is the UK travel industry about to see a financial boom?

British holidaymakers are about to discover which destinations they can visit this summer without having to quarantine upon return. It looks likely that Portugal, Iceland and Malta are to be among those expected to be on the travel green list.

Gibraltar and Israel could also make the cut when the list is published today (Friday 7th May) following weeks of speculation.

Once foreign holidays are permitted again on May 17th, what will this mean for the UK travel agency. Will we want to go abroad? Or will we want to 'staycation' and support our own economy?

Prices for international travel are set to rise this year due to pent-up demand and fewer aeroplanes in service. Booking.com's chief executive Glenn Fogel told the BBC that holiday "prices are already going up".

As many airlines have fewer planes in circulation and less staff available to work, a 'staycation' on UK shores seems like the more affordable option for lots of families looking for a well needed week in the sun.

Once restrictions ease on hospitality on May 17th and customers can dine indoors, we will hopefully see a boom in profits for the UK holiday market.

Where will you be heading to this Summer? Home or away?
